Weather Tech Bed Liner - 2021 Dodge Ram 2500

Gear Review: WeatherTech Truck Bed Liner – Worth It for RV Travel?

May 31, 2025 Posted by Ross S'more RV Fun Blog - Family Camping
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Let’s talk about the unsung hero of camping gear: the truck bed liner. If your truck is your pack mule (like ours is), hauling bins of gear, hoses, firewood, fishing poles, chocks, and the toolbox of dreams—then protecting that bed matters. After trying a few options, we went with the WeatherTech TechLiner, and so far, it’s been a win.

Here’s our honest review, how we use it, and whether or not it’s worth adding to your RV camping setup.

Buy From Amazon: https://amzn.to/2RaYuzo

Why We Got the WeatherTech TechLiner

Simple: we were tired of scratching up the truck bed every time we loaded for a weekend trip. Between bins sliding around and gear banging up the sides, we needed something better than the old rubber mat we were using.

The WeatherTech TechLiner caught our eye because it offers:

  • Custom-fit protection
  • Easy install with no drilling
  • Durable, skid-resistant surface

And when you’re packing and unpacking at every site, every weekend, you want a liner that holds up and makes your life easier.

What It Does Best

1. Protection from wear and tear
Camping gear is not gentle. Sharp edges, dirty totes, and clunky stabilizer jacks all take a toll. The TechLiner shields the truck bed from dents, scratches, and dings—especially when tossing stuff in on the go.

2. Non-slip surface
Even if you are not driving off-road, things will shift in your truck bed. The WeatherTech surface is textured and reduces sliding. Your water bin is less likely to rocket forward when you tap the brakes.

3. Easy install (and removal)
This liner goes in without tools. It uses a hook-and-loop fastening system and custom-fit contouring. It’s molded specifically to your truck model, so it feels OEM.

4. Easy to clean
We’ve dealt with everything from mud-caked firewood to a cooler that leaked chicken juice (yeah, that happened). Just pull it out, rinse it off, and reinstall it in minutes.

A Few Cons to Consider

  • Not as thick as a full spray-in liner. It’s protective, but not bulletproof. If you’re throwing bricks or using the bed for construction, you might want more coverage.
  • Corners can lift slightly if you’re loading heavy or oddly shaped gear. Just keep an eye on the edges.
  • It’s an investment. Prices vary by truck model, but expect to pay around $200+. That’s not cheap—but cheaper than bed repairs.

Why It Matters for RVers

Your truck bed is part of your campsite setup. Ours stores:

  • Water hookup bins
  • Leveling chocks and blocks
  • Sewer hoses
  • Wood for the fire
  • Fishing gear
  • Foldable tables and chairs

Having a bed liner gives you peace of mind. You do not have to baby your truck bed or worry about every nick and gouge. For us, it’s part of the gear checklist—just like a sway bar or surge protector.

If you’re already using your truck as the gear hauler, the WeatherTech TechLiner just makes sense.
