We are Buying an RV in the Middle of a Pandemic, So We Thought
I hope someday I will look back on this post and remember how truly crazy of a time this was. I’ve been working from home for 2 months and it’s looking like I have another month to go during the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the world.
Although overall this time has been a nightmare for both my wife and me when it comes to our jobs, it has been amazing for our family. We are spending more time together during the day, and until my wife went back to work a few weeks ago her and I were also carving out a lot more moments to sit and talk over coffee or an early mid-day drink. I know when this all passes I will look back on this time and have no regrets trying to stay at our fast-paced lifestyle.
Buying an RV during this time hasn’t exactly been roses. When the market essentially took a dive and the mortgage rates plummeted, we took that opportunity to refinance our house and drop our rates almost a full percentage point. This process, in theory, would set us up financially to free up a little more on-hand cash and really allow us to buy the RV we have been eyeing. But we weren’t the only ones looking at a refinance and it has taken our bank over 3 months to process. For those of you wondering, you can’t pull your credit for any other reason during a refinance or it could potentially wreck the deal.
So here we sit, watching our RV sit at the dealership with no guarantee it will outlast the banks processing before being picked up by another family. I’ve asked about putting money down to hold it but they want full financing done within 10 days, so no go. I suppose the reality is that even if we drove it off the lot today, we couldn’t go straight to a campground because they are still closed in Ohio, but our driveway is open!
