Let’s face it—something always needs fixing at the campground. Whether it’s a loose cabinet door, a stripped screw, or a sudden electrical mystery, you’ll be glad you brought a solid toolbox.
In this video and blog, I’m sharing what I personally pack in our RV toolbox—the real gear we use when things go sideways (or squeaky) at the campsite. From fuses and fasteners to WD-40 and wire strippers, this is the toolkit I’ve built over time based on actual repairs and surprises while traveling.
🔧 My Go-To RV Toolbox Essentials
Here’s a breakdown of what’s in my camper’s toolbox and why I bring it:
🔋 Cordless Drills (Hammer + Standard)
- I keep two drills handy with chargers and spare batteries.
- Perfect for repairs inside the trailer or for quick fixes when something gets stuck (like a crank).
🛠️ WD-40
- My MVP. I use it on everything that moves—slide-outs, hinges, steps—you name it.
🔨 Hammer & Screwdrivers
- A standard hammer and both flathead and Phillips screwdrivers.
- I also carry a multi-tool that includes knife blades and extra heads.
🔌 Fuses & Fuse Tester
- A small organizer with 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30-amp fuses.
- These have saved us multiple times already.
🦍 Gorilla Glue
- For everything that falls off the walls (and it will).
- Better than nails when things rattle loose.
📏 Random Screws, Nuts, Bolts & Washers
- I keep a bag of assorted hardware because it’s always something simple that goes missing or breaks.
🪛 Allen Wrenches & Crescent Wrench
- Versatile and lightweight—worth carrying even if you don’t use them often.
💡 Flashlight
- For late-night diagnostics or crawling under the trailer.
✂️ Wire Strippers & Electrical Tape
- Had to use this for an outlet repair, and I was so glad I packed it.
🎯 Zip Ties & Sharpies
- Honestly, zip ties are the unsung hero of RV life.
- Sharpies for labeling, notes, or emergency hose ID.
🔒 Extra Lock & Hose Clip
- Always useful if a lock goes missing or you need to secure something on the fly.
🧷 Small Nails, Fasteners & Brackets
- These help with last-minute fixes or when you need to tack something up (like a loose panel).
🛠️ Socket Set
- A compact set tossed in for anything that needs torque.
🪣 BONUS TIP: Duct Tape
- Mine was inside the camper during this video—but I never camp without duct tape.
🧲 The Common Theme: Fasteners & Fixes
When I really look at what’s in my box, it comes down to being ready to secure, reattach, or patch just about anything. It’s not the most glamorous gear, but when something’s about to fall apart and the kids are waiting for s’mores—you’ll be glad you brought it.
